Transdisciplinary Research in Energetics and Cancer RFA (U54) Reissued
On behalf of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), the Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program (EGRP) announces the reissuance of the Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer Program (TREC). The RFA, RFA-CA-10-006, will support a network or research centers that will facilitate new collaborative endeavors and address knowledge gaps.
TREC Research Center applicants must address the following research objectives:
- Enhance knowledge of the current mechanisms, from cellular, animal, or human models to genetics and genomics, underlying the association between energy balance and carcinogenesis across a range of cancer-relevant areas from causation to prevention throughout the human life cycle.
- Explore and integrate the etiology of obesity behavior and relevant health behavior theories, with broad population impact at the social-environmental and policy levels for prevention and control of obesity, focusing on children, groups at high risk for obesity, and cancer survivors.
This RFA will use the U54 Cooperative Agreement award mechanism and is open to all applicants regardless of whether or not they participated in the previous TREC issuance. The estimated amount of funds available for support for up to six projects awarded as a result of this announcement is $15 million for fiscal year 2010, and $75 million over five years. Applicants may request a project period up to five years, and a budget (in direct cost) up to $1.5 million per year. Future year amounts will depend on annual appropriations.
Letters of intent are due by January 26, 2010. Applications are due February 26, 2010.
