Federal Register Notice Seeks Comment on Draft HHS Framework on Multiple Chronic Conditions
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Interagency Workgroup on Multiple Chronic Conditions (MCC) published a draft strategic framework in the Federal Register on May 19, 2010. They are open for comment until 5:30 p.m. on June 18, 2010.
The “Strategic Framework on Multiple Chronic Conditions” addresses approaches to improving the health of individuals with concurrent multiple chronic conditions by providing options for HHS to strengthen coordination of its efforts internally and collaboration with stakeholders externally.
The Department has established four overarching goals, and the fourth goal may be of particular interest to epidemiologists:
- Assist health care and social service providers care for individuals with MCC;
- Assist individuals with MCC with self-care management;
- Foster health system changes to improve the health of individuals with MCC; and
- Facilitate research to fill knowledge gaps about individuals with MCC.
The objectives for the fourth goal are to increase the external validity of trials, understand the epidemiology of multiple co-morbidities, increase clinical and patient-centered health research, and address disparities in MCC populations.
In addition to general comments, the Workgroup is seeking input on any additional gaps not addressed in the draft document.
Comments are preferred electronically and may be addressed to MCC@hhs.gov.
