Funding Opportunities Available for Development of Informatics Technology

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has issued five Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA) to advance development of informatics technologies to improve the acquisition, management, analysis, and dissemination of data and knowledge.

These FOAs are a component of NCI's Informatics Technology for Research Initiative, which promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in the development of innovative computational methods and informatics approaches essential for cancer research on all fronts in order to accelerate scientific discovery and ultimately translate data into knowledge and clinical practice.

These Program Announcements with Special Review (PAR) are:

  1. Revisions for Early-Stage Development of Informatics Technology - This PAR encourages revision applications (formerly called "competing revisions") from currently funded NCI Research Project Grants (R01) and Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) Awards (R37) with at least one year left at the estimated time of award. Early-stage development is defined as the initial development or significant modification of existing tools for new applications.
  2. Advanced Development of Informatics Technology - This PAR invites Resource-Related Research Project Cooperative Agreements (U24) for advanced development and enhancement of emerging informatics technologies, which are ones that have passed the initial prototyping and pilot development stage, demonstrated potential to have a significant and broader impact, have compelling reasons for further improvement and enhancement, and have not been widely adopted in the cancer research field.
  3. Early-Stage Development of Informatics Technology - This PAR encourages Research Project Cooperative Agreements (U01). The FOA focuses on early-stage development from prototyping to hardening and adaption.
  4. Revisions for Early-Stage Development of Informatics Technology - This PAR solicits revisions (formerly called "competing revisions") from currently funded NCI Research Project Cooperative Agreements (U01) with at least one year left at the estimated time of award.
  5. Revisions for Early-Stage Development of Informatics Technology - This PAR invites revisions (formerly called "competing revisions") from currently funded NCI Research Program Projects (P01) with at least one year left at the estimated time of award.

Application due dates are: January 22, 2013; June 18, 2013; November 18, 2013; June 18, 2014; November 18, 2014; June 18, 2015, by 5 p.m. local time of the applicant organization.

Letters of intent (although not required) are due 30 days before the application deadlines.

The PARs expire June 19, 2015.

These PARs are cosponsored by NCI's Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences' (DCCPS) Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP) and Behavioral Research Program (BRP), and the Division of Cancer Biology (DCB).
