Invitation to Register and Submit Abstracts for Workshop on Pancreatitis, Diabetes, and Pancreatic Cancer
Registration is open for a workshop on pancreatitis, diabetes, and pancreatic cancer sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The workshop will be held June 12-13, 2013 in the Lister Hill Auditorium on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) main campus in Bethesda, MD.
The purpose of the workshop is to explore the known and suspected mechanisms for the increased risk for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) associated with chronic pancreatitis and diabetes mellitus (DM), to identify the prevalence of Type 3c DM (T3cDM) in the overall DM population and to assess strategies to discriminate T3cDM from Type 2 DM (T2DM), to review the effects of anti-diabetic therapy on the development of PDAC, and to explore possible PDAC surveillance methods for T2DM and T3cDM patients. Participants will develop a series of opportunities and priorities that could inform further research efforts sponsored by both NIDDK and NCI.
Students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty are invited to submit abstracts. A limited number of travel awards are available for poster presenters. Abstracts must be e-mailed to Denise Hoffman by March 29, 2013.
There is no registration fee to attend the NIDDK-NCI Workshop on Pancreatitis, Diabetes, and Pancreatic Cancer, but all participants must register in advance.
