Where to Send Closeout Documents for Your Grants
Principal Investigators are strongly encouraged to submit the closeout documents for their grants electronically through the NIH's eRA Commons. Closeout materials include the Final Progress Report, Final Invention Statement (HHS 568), and Financial Status Report (SF 269). The Financial Status Report must be submitted within 90 days of the expiration date. In addition, unless an application for competitive renewal is submitted, a Final Invention Statement (not applicable to training, construction, conference, or cancer education grants) and a Final Progress Report also must be submitted within 90 days of the expiration date. Additional information on electronic submission of Financial Status Reports is available on the Commons Home page or by contacting the eRA Help Desk at commons@od.nih.gov or (866) 504-9552.
If you are submitting paper versions of the closeout documents, print the Financial Status Report and Final Invention Statement forms.
Submit the Final Progress Report (one original and one copy) and the Final Invention Statement to the awarding component:

Program Announcements Reissued on Energy Balance and Malignancies in AIDS and Acquired Immune Suppression
Two EGRP-sponsored Program Announcements (PA) for Research Project Grants (R01) have been reissued this month:
- Studies of Energy Balance and Cancer in Humans (PA-07-176) invites
investigator-initiated research to define factors affecting energy
balance and define mechanisms influencing cancer risk, prognosis, and
quality of life. These studies may range from new analyses of existing
datasets to additional collection of data and biological specimens
in ongoing investigations. Applicants responding to this PA must have
previously collected measures from human subjects on two or more of
the following exposures: diet, physical activity, body composition,
and/or related biomarkers, and they should thoroughly address sample
size(s) and power issues in their applications. It is anticipated that
the knowledge gained will provide a better understanding of the relationships
among energy balance, cancer risk, and cancer prognosis. Competitive
supplemental applications to existing NCI-funded R01, Research Program
Project (P01), Cancer Center Support (P30), or Research Project Cooperative
Agreement (U01) Grants as well as new R01 applications are invited.
PA-07-176 appears in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts.
A separate Funding Opportunity Announcement of identical scientific scope, PA-06-405, was announced in May 2006 to solicit applications under the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) award mechanism.
Direct scientific questions about these PAs to EGRP's Virginia (Ginny) Hartmuller, Ph.D., R.D.; e-mail: hartmulv@mail.nih.gov. The PAs are cosponsored with NCI's Office of Cancer Survivorship, also part of our Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), and the Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP). Refer to the PAs for details.
- Research on Malignancies in AIDS and Acquired Immune Suppression
(PA-07-173) solicits research that will improve our understanding
of the biological basis of cancer development and progression in
the context of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), or acquired immune suppression
not associated with HIV infection, such as organ transplantation.
The PA is cosponsored with the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial
Research (NIDCR), National Institutes of Health (NIH). NCI and NIDCR
seek to encourage novel approaches to the discovery and preclinical
development of novel therapeutic agents and biomarkers for early
diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression. Molecular epidemiologic
studies of the role of chronic latent viruses and their interaction
with one another or with environmental factors in the context of
acquired immune suppression or HIV infection leading to the development
of tumors or lesions with oncogenic potential are also of interest.
PA-07-173 appears in the NIH Guide.
A separate Funding Opportunity Announcement of identical scientific scope, PA-06-338, was announced in April 2006 to solicit applications under the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) award mechanism.
Direct molecular epidemiology questions about these PAs to EGRP's Mukesh Verma, Ph.D., Acting Chief, Analytic Epidemiology Research Branch (AERB), e-mail: vermam@mail.nih.gov; or Vaurice Starks, Program Director, AERB: e-mail: vs38j@nih.gov. The PAs are cosponsored with NCI's Division of Cancer Biology, Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis, and Office of AIDS Malignancies Program, and with NIDCR. Refer to the NIH Guide announcement for details.
