Communication to Grantees
From G. Iris Obrams, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Director
Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program
We're working on another Bulletin from the Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program (EGRP), but in the meantime, I am sending a News Flash about a few items that just can't wait.
Our Website is now live. You'll find information about EGRP; Program Announcements; Requests for Applications and Proposals (when applicable); staff contact information; and a "What's New" section, including links to "What's New" elsewhere at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). We're still building the Website, and plan to include an area with information about NIH grant application procedures and policies, for example. We welcome your thoughts on what would be useful to add. The URL to access EGRP is: http://epi.grants.cancer.gov/. The URL to access the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences' (DCCPS) home page is: http://cancercontrol.cancer.gov.
A new Program Announcement titled "Molecular Epidemiology of Prostate Carcinogenesis" was advertised in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts on January 29, 1999. There is to be a special review committee for applications received April 26 and November 19. NCI will give special funding consideration to these applications, as described in "NCI Initiatives Applicable to Prostate Cancer Research," November 30, 1998. Also, supplemental projects on prostate cancer to on-going grants (for example, R01, U01, P01, and center grants) are acceptable if submitted as R01 applications. You may find it helpful to refer to Defeating Prostate Cancer: Crucial Directions for Prostate Cancer Research, a report of the Prostate Cancer Progress Review Group, August 1998. Inquiries about the Program Announcement may be directed to EGRP's Dr. Kumiko Iwamoto, preferably by e-mail: cj245@nih.gov (telephone: 301-496-9600).
Also, this is a final reminder that the deadline for applying for branch chiefs of EGRP's recently established Analytic Epidemiology and Research Branch and Clinical and Genetic Epidemiology Research Branch is Friday, February 26. Links to the position announcements and application information are provided on EGRP's home page.
You have not received this News Flash by e-mail because we do not know your address. We'd be happy to get these communications to you more quickly if you will contact us with the information: telephone: 301-496-9600; e-mail: rm78q@nih.gov; fax: 301-402-4279.
