In response to a number of requests, the deadline for receipt of abstracts
for the Fifth International AIDS Malignancy Conference is extended to
February 27, 2001. This extension was made possible by changing the way
the abstracts will be published. A tumor virology component to the meeting,
as described below, has also been added.
The Fifth International Aids Malignancy Conference
Natcher Conference Center, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Campus
Bethesda, Maryland
April 23-25, 2001
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is sponsoring the fifth conference
on malignancies in AIDS and other types of immune deficiencies on April
23-25, 2001, at the Natcher Conference Center, National Institutes of
Health (NCI) Campus, Bethesda, Md. The objectives are to share state-of-the
art clinical research, epidemiologic research, and basic research results
in order to advance research across diverse disciplines. This year's program
will incorporate more basic research on the role of viruses, particularly
human papillomavirus (HPV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and Kaposi's Sarcoma
herpesvirus (KSHV), and the inadequate anti-tumoral and anti-viral immune
response in the genesis of these malignancies.
The program will highlight basic and translational virologic, immunologic,
and genetic research that has promise for the identification and development
of targets for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. It will include topics
on laboratory studies, experimental model systems, and therapies for patients.
The format will include roundtables, invited lectures, lectures from other
registered participants whose abstracts are specifically selected, as
well as poster presentations. The participation of NIH-funded investigators
with significant new research results is particularly encouraged.
Abstract
preparation and submission guidelines, agenda, online registration, and
lodging information are available on the Internet. E-mail submission
of abstracts is strongly encouraged. The NCI will publish the abstracts
in a meeting abstract book and not in the Journal of Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndromes this year.
