News Flash
The Epidemology and Genetics Research Program (EGRP) is cosponsoring
a Request for Applications (RFA) to establish breast cancer and the environment
research centers, a variety of Program Announcements (PA/PAR/PAS), and
small business opportunities to stimulate research. Below is a list of
funding opportunities, links to the announcements that appear in the NIH
Guide for Grants and Contracts, and the contact information for the
EGRP Program Directors with whom to discuss proposals.
Also, please remember that the deadline is December 23 to have in place
formal approval to submit large budget applications for the February 1,
2003, receipt date. Large budget applications are for more than $500,000
or more in direct costs in any year. The requirement does not pertain
to RFAs, although Letters of Intent are appreciated for our planning purposes.
See the end this message for further explanation.

Advance Notice Required to Submit Large Applications
The deadline is December 23 to have in place formal approval to submit
large budget applications for the February 1, 2003, receipt date. Please
remember that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) requires that grant
applicants with a requested budget over $500,000 direct costs in any year
contact the appropriate program staff member 6 to 8 weeks in advance of
submitting the grant to the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) for
peer review. If the requested dollar amount is more than $1.5 million
direct costs in any year, then approval must be sought AT LEAST 8 weeks
prior to submitting the grant to CSR for review. CSR no longer accepts
amended budgets for submissions over $500,000.
Investigators must follow this policy, speak to the appropriate NCI Program
Director, and respond to requests for information. If advance notice about
the proposed study and budget is not received, applications will be returned,
causing a delay in submission and review of one round. This policy applies
to new, competing continuation, competing supplement, and amended/revised
applications. The policy does not apply to applications submitted in response
to RFAs or in response to other announcements that include specific budgetary
limits.
See the DCCPS
Web site for a special message explaining the advance notice process.
Also, refer to the NIH Guide Notices: NOT-OD-02-004
and NOT-CA-02-029.
