American College of Epidemiology Cancels Meeting Set for Sept., New Orleans
-- Moving Program to 2006 Epidemiology Congress, June, Seattle

This News Flash is to forward a communication about cancellation of the American College of Epidemiology's annual meeting that was scheduled for Sept. 17-20 in New Orleans. Please note that ACE is working to move much of the program to be part of the 2006 Epidemiology Congress in June in Seattle. Below from Dr. Martha Linet, ACE President:

Dear Colleagues:

Regretfully and after extensive deliberation, the American College of Epidemiology (ACE) Executive Committee has decided to cancel its annual meeting, which was to be held on September 17-20 in New Orleans at the Fairmont Hotel. The Executive Committee's decision was based on the unheralded disaster in New Orleans, and the difficulties that we and registrants were encountering with re-booking travel and relocating the meeting.

We deeply regret canceling a meeting that all of us were looking forward to with great enthusiasm. The ACE Board of Directors will meet on September 17-18 (location to be provided in the next day or so), and work closely with Betsy Foxman, program committee chair, and other organizers of the 2006 Epidemiology Congress to re-schedule as many of the plenary sessions, Education Forum lunch and breakfast round-table discussions, the Meet the Editors session, the Workshops, and the Awards presentations to take place instead at the Epidemiology Congress in June 24-26, 2006, in Seattle. (Web sites: 2006 Epidemiology CongressExternal Web Site Policy; ACEExternal Web Site Policy )

On behalf of the Executive Committee, we apologize for disappointing you, those registered for our meeting, speakers, workshop leaders, and poster presenters. All registration fees will be refunded. Given the dire situation and loss of life in New Orleans and neighboring regions, we feel that the meeting should not be held. ACE plans to make a donation to help the victims of this unprecedented disaster.
