Biography
Dr. Burgio is the Scientific Review Coordinator for the Cancer Family Registries (CFRs), serving on several of their committees and working groups. He works closely with program staff to evaluate the activities of epidemiology consortia supported by EGRP.
Dr. Burgio received his Ph.D. in 2004 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he studied the structure and function of the small heat shock protein α-Crystallin focusing on the quaternary structure and abnormal aggregation states of the protein. After completing his Ph.D., he joined the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) as a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Muscle Biology, where he conducted research on protein-protein interactions in muscle myofibrils. Dr. Burgio also worked at the National Eye Institute (NEI) profiling global protein expression in mouse melanoma cell lines using proteomic techniques.
In 2007, as an employee of The Scientific Consulting Group, Inc., Dr. Burgio came to work for EGRP.
