NIH Announces 2011 NIH Director's Transformative Research Projects Program
Through the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Common Fund, NIH invites Transformative Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations proposing groundbreaking, exceptionally innovative, high risk, original, and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms or challenge existing ones. Projects must clearly demonstrate potential to produce a major impact in a broad area of biomedical or behavioral research.
The NIH Common Fund will commit $25 million in Fiscal Year 2011 for this program. The number of awards will depend on the size and scope of the most meritorious applications; however, up to one-third of the budget for this Request for Applications (RFA) will be reserved for projects exceeding $1 million in direct costs.
The receipt date for letters of intent is September 27, 2010. Applications are due October 27, 2010.
