NCI Participating in Funding Opportunity for Mechanistic Insights from Birth Cohorts

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) will participate in the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) titled "Mechanistic Insights from Birth Cohorts." The FOA uses the Research Project Grants (R01) funding mechanism. Letters of Intent are due May 5, 2013. Standard due dates apply and applications are due by 5:00 p.m. local time of applicant organization. View the NIH standard due dates by funding mechanism.External Web Site Policy

This FOA is intended to support novel research on how prenatal exposures contribute to the etiology of chronic diseases and health conditions later in life. Little is known about the mechanisms by which such prenatal exposures lead to diabetes or obesity, renal, pulmonary, or cardiovascular or hematologic disease, neurodevelopmental disorders, reproductive health (i.e. fertility), or cancer. The goal of this FOA is to stimulate research by leveraging existing birth cohorts to address targeted mechanistic questions regarding the normal and abnormal developmental origins of organ systems and/or diseases of interest to the participating NIH Institutes and Centers.

Budgets are limited to less than $500,000 in direct costs per year. The maximum project period is five years.
